Mixture


Objective
¡Students will examine mixtures of objects, in order to explore ways to classify and separate mixtures

Explain:
¡Homogeneous Mixture
    §Substance are so even mixed that you cant see the different parts
         ▪Examples: solutions, gases

Checking for understanding question
What properties are used to separate mixture
    Physical properties
Is a mixture a substance? Explain
    No, a mixture is made of two or more substance that are physically blended but not chemically combined

¡Heterogeneous Mixture
§You can usually see the different parts
§Can be easily separated.
Example: salad

Elaborate:


¡Building inquiry
§Getting the iron out
Pour cereal in the bag and seal it
Crush until a fine powder
Pour in a bowl, add just enough water to cover the cereal
Stir with a magnet for about 10 minutes
Remove the magnet-drain
Remove particles with white tissue. What do you see?
